Who we are
Our history dates back to October 2008 when the Avner Nahmani Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund was launched at Avner’s workplace – Woolworths Head Office.
Avner’s Fund was managed by a dedicated group of people – friends and colleagues of Avner’s as well as his wife, Caroline, who set out to raise money for Pancreatic Cancer research. Their initial goal was to raise $1 million to fund a trial carried out by the Australasian Gastro-Intestinal Trials Group (AGITG). It was a big goal to aim for and the team who managed the Fund reasonably thought it would take quite a few years to achieve. They hadn’t banked on the incredible support of our many generous corporate and individual supporters who together achieved this goal within two years of launching!
Having met this initial goal, they realised that it was only the beginning and incorporated as a Foundation on 30 July 2010. Our Foundation, the Avner Pancreatic Cancer Foundation Limited, was then, and still is, the only Foundation in Australia exclusively dedicated to Pancreatic Cancer.
